What is a blog?
You can find a long answer here.
The short answer is that a blog is a website that usually provides an RSS feed to notify you of updates. Also:
- A blog can cover a number of topics - spirituality, technology, motherhood, finances, etc.
- A blog can have one or more authors.
- Blog entries (also called posts) are usually listed in chronological order, with the latest post at the top.
- Readers can usually interact with a blog by posting a comment.
How can I know if blog has been updated?
A blog can notify you that it's been updated if it has an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed. Look for this picture somewhere on the webpage -
. (Read this for a good explanation of RSS.)
You can subscribe to the feed in a feed reader like Google Reader. You'll need to sign up (it's free!), but it's worth it for the convenience.
Some blogs also allow you to be notified of updates via email. Look in the sidebar on the right for an example. If you enter your email address in the box below "Enter your email address," new blog posts will be emailed to your inbox without you having to come back to this webpage!
How can I let the blog author know what I think about the posts?
The truly special feature of a blog is that readers can interact with the authors and each other by posting comments. You'll usually find the comment link below each post. Blog authors (including me!) love comments. Just click on the comment link and write as if you're having a conversation with the authors and readers. But remember - don't write anything that you don't want the whole world to know!
